EDISS (Engineering of Data-intensive Intelligent Software Systems) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree co-funded by the European Union and jointly delivered by four European universities: Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland (coordinator), the University of the Balearic Islands in Palma, Spain, the University of L’Aquila in Italy, and Mälardalen University in Västerås, Sweden. Over two years (120 ECTS) students combine software engineering with data science — data pipelines, DataOps, big-data analytics and AI — and move between partner universities, earning a joint master’s degree. Each intake offers Erasmus Mundus scholarships open to applicants of any nationality worldwide.

Benefits & funding

  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship: full waiver of the €9,000/year participation cost, a €1,400/month living allowance for 24 months, and health insurance — worth about €51,600 over two years.
  • EDISS consortium scholarships: €800/month in year 1 and €310/month in year 2 (plus an Erasmus+ mobility grant of about €490–540/month), around €31,320 total.
  • Tuition Fee Waiver scholarships: the €9,000/year participation cost fully covered, with health insurance.
