The European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) funds physicians to learn current MS patient management and care at a European MS clinic or research centre.
Applicants choose their own host and senior clinical mentor in advance, then train full-time in clinical care, which may include coursework and clinical research. The aim is to build careers as MS physicians through cross-border exchange.
Benefits & funding
- EUR 55,000 for one year (pro-rated if shorter), paid to the host as the fellow’s employer, which pays a salary or stipend at its own rate.
- Economy travel between home and host, reimbursed on receipts; no family travel.
- Separate travel and accommodation support to attend and present at the annual ECTRIMS congress.
- Term: 1 year (2027 guide); the main page also lists 3- or 6-month terms.
Eligibility
- Any nationality; an MD or equivalent medical degree (completed residency not required).
- Specialty interest in neurology or another MS-related field of medicine.
- No prior work at the proposed host institution or under the proposed mentor.
- The host must be a different institute in a different country from your current post; European citizens must train outside their own country (exceptions possible).
- Applicant and mentor must confirm no language barrier.
- One application per cycle across all ECTRIMS fellowship categories.
- Awardees are generally under 40, but older applicants may apply; all else equal, some preference for applicants from less-developed countries where MS is prevalent.

- 1Secure a host clinic and senior mentor; write the training plan together.
- 2Submit via myECTRIMS by 1 December 2026 (23:59 CET), as PDFs: CV, statement of intent, training plan, proof of the host’s local language.
