Benefits & funding

• ICCR pays tuition and the compulsory fees charged by the Indian university or institute.
• A monthly living allowance covers day-to-day costs and accommodation.
• An annual contingency allowance covers books and stationery.
• Return economy-class air travel is included: one journey to join the course, one after completing it.
• The first three months of the allowance are paid in advance on arrival; later payments run through a State Bank of India account.
• Medical treatment is reimbursed under Central Government Health Scheme rules, and students must additionally hold personal medical insurance of at least INR 500,000 a year.
• The award runs for the length of the undergraduate engineering course, four years for a standard B.E. or B.Tech.
• ICCR publishes the exact allowance rates in the financial terms sheet on the portal, not on the scheme page.

Eligibility

• Open to nationals of Bhutan; applications are handled by the Education Section of the Embassy of India in Thimphu.
• Undergraduate engineering courses only, at the 131 Indian universities and institutes on ICCR’s list.
• Physics, chemistry and mathematics must have been taken in grades 11 and 12; all three are mandatory for engineering courses.
• Applicants must be at least 18 and not more than 40 at the time of admission to the Indian university or institute.
• Awards are tenable at Indian state and central universities only; private and deemed universities are excluded.
• Teaching is in English, so applicants need enough English to study in it.
• Students must arrange their own medical insurance with annual cover of at least INR 500,000.
• The portal’s blurb under this scheme repeats wording about Maldives nationals; the scheme title and the Embassy of India in Thimphu both set it for Bhutanese nationals.

Application process

   Register for the academic year on ICCR’s A2A portal and obtain a user ID.

   Complete the online application and select scheme G0192.

   List institutes in order of preference, up to five.

   Upload every certificate and document the chosen institutes require; an incomplete application is cancelled.

   The Embassy of India in Thimphu processes the application and selects within the slots allocated to Bhutan.

   Universities confirm provisional admission on the portal; placement follows seat availability, not preference order alone.

   If selected, buy medical insurance, complete visa formalities and join the course for the July session.

   applications opened on the A2A portal for the 2026–27 cycle.

2. 22 April 2026

   application deadline for 2026–27, after an extension.

3. 31 May 2026

   last date for the separate AYUSH schemes; every other scheme, including this one, closed for 2026–27.

4. July 2026

   the 2026–27 academic session begins.

5. Late February 2027 (expected)

   the 2027–28 round opens, following this year’s pattern.
