The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Tsinghua University runs this in-person summer school in Beijing. It combines Chinese language, history, philosophy and literature with cultural visits and traditional-arts workshops.

The 2026 edition ran from June 29 to July 13. The public Tsinghua call targets non-Chinese undergraduate and graduate students, while an official Exeter HASS partner route reserves places for eligible students from that faculty.

Benefits & funding

  • Under the public Tsinghua route, participants cover accommodation, meals, tuition and insurance; a limited number of partial scholarships are available to outstanding candidates.
  • Under the Exeter HASS partner route, accommodation, meals, tuition and insurance are fully funded.
  • International travel is excluded from the Exeter funding and must be paid by successful candidates.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students and must not be Chinese nationals.
  • Applicants need a strong interest in Chinese culture and language.
  • The Exeter partner route is limited to current Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  • Admission is competitive and based on academic merit.
