DFLL,THU Summer School — Summer School

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Tsinghua University runs this in-person summer school in Beijing. It combines Chinese language, history, philosophy and literature with cultural visits and traditional-arts workshops.

The 2026 edition ran from June 29 to July 13. The public Tsinghua call targets non-Chinese undergraduate and graduate students, while an official Exeter HASS partner route reserves places for eligible students from that faculty.

Benefits & funding

Under the public Tsinghua route, participants cover accommodation, meals, tuition and insurance; a limited number of partial scholarships are available to outstanding candidates.
Under the Exeter HASS partner route, accommodation, meals, tuition and insurance are fully funded.
International travel is excluded from the Exeter funding and must be paid by successful candidates.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students and must not be Chinese nationals.
Applicants need a strong interest in Chinese culture and language.
The Exeter partner route is limited to current Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences undergraduate or postgraduate students.
Admission is competitive and based on academic merit.
