Danish state scholarships are funded by the Danish state and awarded by Aarhus University to a limited number of fee-paying master’s applicants from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.
There is no separate application: anyone who applies for a master’s programme by the non-EU deadline is assessed automatically, with priority for excellent academic qualifications. Recipients study in Aarhus, Denmark.
Benefits & funding
- Full or partial tuition waiver; 2026/27 fees are EUR 13,000 a year for most Arts and Aarhus BSS programmes and EUR 17,300 at Natural and Technical Sciences.
- Arts and Aarhus BSS add a monthly living grant, typically for the whole programme; it may not cover all living costs.
- Natural and Technical Sciences give the waiver only; recipients must show they can support themselves to get a residence permit.
Eligibility
- Citizens of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland who are liable to pay tuition fees; EU/EEA/Swiss citizens cannot apply.
- Not eligible: non-EU citizens exempt from fees, such as holders of a Danish permanent residence permit.
- A bachelor’s degree comparable to a Danish one (180 ECTS); final-year students may get a conditional offer. Plus the programme’s specific and English requirements.
- Some faculties may focus on selected programmes or applicants from certain countries.
