The Chula-Global Library Visiting Fellowship is run by the Office of Academic Resources (OAR) at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. It brings one non-Thai library and information professional or scholar to Bangkok for two months to collaborate with OAR staff. Fellows pursue one of two tracks: Track 1 (Professional Practice) for library and information professionals engaged in hands-on library operations, service innovation, or digital initiatives; and Track 2 (Research Fellowship) for scholars co-authoring a paper or short research project on Thai and Southeast Asian studies using OAR collections. Fellows complete a collaborative project, give a knowledge-sharing presentation to Chulalongkorn staff and students, and submit a final report by the last day of the fellowship.
Benefits & funding
- Stipend of 230,000 THB (subject to a 15% withholding tax under Thai regulations), paid in two installments — the first shortly after arrival, the second at program end once the work and final report are submitted.
- The stipend is designed to help cover pre-arrival and on-site expenses: visa fees, airfare, accommodation, travel and health insurance, and other program-related costs.
- Two-month in-person fellowship in Bangkok, with OAR staff serving as project partners or co-authors.
- OAR provides supporting documents for the Non-Immigrant Category B (Non-B) visa and work-permit applications.
- Note: fellows must be ready to cover their own travel, accommodation, and insurance before the first stipend installment is paid; they must also bring their own laptop and software tools.
Eligibility
- Open to non-Thai citizens only.
- Must be employed by a reputable university or institution for the full duration of the fellowship, with approval from the home institution to participate.
- Strong English-language proficiency.
- Track 1 (Professional Practice): library and information professionals holding at least three years of relevant experience.
