Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and partner organisations. It brings emerging leaders from more than 160 countries and territories to the UK for a one-year taught master’s degree. China has its own dedicated Chevening page and cohort, and roughly thirty or more awards are made to candidates from China each year. Scholars choose any eligible UK university and course, join a global alumni network, and commit to returning home to contribute to their country afterwards.

Benefits & funding

  • Full university tuition fees for a one-year master’s programme.
  • A monthly living stipend, set at a higher rate for those studying inside London.
  • Return economy airfare between the home country and the UK.
  • An arrival allowance and reimbursement of the UK visa application fee.
  • Access to the worldwide Chevening alumni network and UK-based events.

Eligibility

  • Be a citizen of China (a Chevening-eligible country or territory).
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme, completed at least two years before the deadline.
  • Have at least two years of work experience (equivalent to about 2,800 hours); part-time, voluntary work and internships count.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK master’s courses and hold an unconditional offer from at least one by the offer deadline.
  • Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
  • Chevening itself sets no English language test requirement (it was removed in 2020); you meet the English language requirements of your chosen UK university instead.
