Chevening Scholarships support emerging leaders to complete a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. The programme is supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations.
Scholars study in person at an eligible UK university and join Chevening’s professional and alumni network. Applications for the 2027–28 cycle are open and follow a country- or territory-based application route.

- Economy travel to and from the scholar’s country of residence on an approved route.
- Arrival and departure allowances, a travel top-up allowance, and the cost of one visa application.
- Up to £75 toward required TB testing.
- A monthly living allowance whose rate depends on whether study is inside or outside London and is reviewed annually.

- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory; British or dual British citizens are ineligible unless they are citizens of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) status and apply from Hong Kong.

- Citizens of ASEAN member states or Timor-Leste opt into the Chevening ASEAN Scholarship through the standard application from their country above; the Chevening SIDS Scholarship, under the same standard criteria, serves participating small island developing states.
- Applicants for an award from an ODA-eligible country must reside in an ODA-eligible country, which need not be their country of citizenship; applicants living in a European overseas territory may use the relevant scheme for their European country of citizenship.
- Commit to return to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship.
- Have at least two years, or 2,800 hours, of work experience gained after completing an undergraduate degree.
- Hold an undergraduate degree qualifying them for a UK master’s programme and have completed undergraduate study at least two years before the application deadline; the certificate is required by interview.
- Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and obtain an unconditional offer from at least one by 8 July 2027.
- Applicants living in the UK at application are ineligible, apart from residents of British Overseas Territories; refugee status is allowed only when both the applicant’s citizenship and country of refuge are Chevening-eligible.
- Certain current, recent, or related employees of specified government, British Council, partner-university, or subsidiary organisations are ineligible, as are previous recipients of UK government funding to study in the UK; a former Chevening Fellow may apply for a Scholarship five years after completing the Fellowship.

- 2Confirm eligibility, select three eligible UK master’s courses, and prepare responses covering leadership, relationship-building, course choice, and career plans.
- 3Submit the online application by 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC.
- 4If shortlisted, attend the embassy or high commission interview and upload photo identification, the undergraduate certificate or diploma, and reference letters at least seven working days before the interview.
