The English Camps are week-long immersion sessions, cut to four days at some camps that fall around a public holiday, run by the English Opens Doors Program of Chile’s Ministry of Education. Students spend the week using English in games, workshops and group activities rather than in formal classes.

Two cycles run each year: summer camps in January and winter camps between late June and late July. Each region hosts its own camps at a school venue, with separate calls for the primary (básica) and secondary (media) levels.

Places are free for selected students, who apply through the form published for their own region. Regional English Coordinators receive the applications and notify results by email.

Benefits & funding

  • A week of in-person English immersion (four days at some camps that fall around a holiday), 10:00–16:00 in the winter cycle and 10:00–15:30 in the summer cycle.
  • No participation fee; the camps are free for selected students.
  • JUNAEB meals during the camp: breakfast, lunch and a snack.
  • School accident insurance provided by the Ministry of Education.
  • Materials and activity guides.
  • A diploma for students who attend at least 60% of the week.

Eligibility

  • Students enrolled in Chile from 5° básico through 4° medio (grades 5 to 12) in the year of the camp.
  • The school must be municipal, subsidised, delegated-administration or SLEP (local public education service), in the scientific-humanist, technical-professional or artistic modality.
  • No English level is required; the call states that willingness to take part is enough.
  • A guardian or legal tutor must authorise the application, and guardians co-apply for básica students.
  • No nationality requirement is published; the gate is enrolment in an eligible Chilean school.
