These linked Cambridge Trust studentships support prospective University of Cambridge Master’s students assessed at the Home fee rate. They are intended for low-income applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage.
Cambridge Opportunity is the general route. Get In Cambridge uses the same criteria but is reserved for applicants from Black, British Bangladeshi or British Pakistani backgrounds. Recipients study in Cambridge on an eligible full-time or part-time course.
Benefits & funding
- Together with the maximum postgraduate grant or loan available through government student finance, the studentship is intended to cover University fees and living expenses.
- Approximately 30 awards were listed for the 2026/27 award year.
- Support runs for the course length and is not extendable.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be prospective Master’s students on an eligible full-time or part-time University of Cambridge course and must be assessed at the Home fee rate.
- Applicants must not already hold a Master’s degree or higher qualification and must not currently be undertaking postgraduate study.
- Applicants must lack the savings, assets, other awards or income independent of hours worked needed to finance the proposed course.
- At least one additional indicator should apply, or the applicant should explain other challenging circumstances: UK refugee status or humanitarian protection; Free School Meals; time in local-authority care or a Foyer; young-carer responsibilities; residence in a highly deprived area; a UK undergraduate Maintenance Grant; or, for undergraduate study begun after August 2016, eligibility for a means-tested Student Loans Company maintenance loan with assessed residual household income of £42,620 or less.
- Other listed indicators include being the first generation in the immediate family to undertake undergraduate or Master’s study; estrangement from family or carers; caring responsibilities during full-time undergraduate study; being a single parent, lone foster parent or lone guardian during full-time undergraduate study; or undergraduate disruption caused by health difficulties or bereavement of an immediate family member.
