Benefits & funding

Eligibility

• Applicants must be from a country in Africa.
• Applicants must seek admission to an eligible Cambridge PhD in any subject; premium-rate courses and the Doctor of Business are excluded.
• The proposed research must contribute to Africa’s development and to climate-resilient, sustainable futures for Africa and the world.
• Cambridge Trust postgraduate scholarships generally require significant academic achievement and potential, plus financial need.
• Applicants must submit by their course-specific funding deadline, request funding consideration in the application, and receive a conditional offer of admission.

Application process

   Select an eligible Cambridge PhD and check its course page for the applicable funding deadline.

   Start the course application through the University’s Applicant Portal and provide the required documents and references.

   In the funding section, indicate a wish to be considered for funding and provide the requested financial information. No separate application is required for this scholarship.

   Submit the complete admission application by the earlier applicable course or funding deadline.
5. 5
   If admitted conditionally, remain under consideration during the Trust’s awards period.

Program timeline

1. Cambridge postgraduate applications normally open.

   Early September

2. 2 December 2025 or 7 January 2026

   Main University funding deadlines for 2026/27 entry, depending on the course; applicants had to follow the earlier applicable deadline.

3. Cambridge Trust awards period.

   March–July

   Scholarship and course start date.
