The Bloomberg Harvard Visiting Scholars Program brings researchers to the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University for one semester or a full academic year. Scholars advance a project on urban problem-solving or city leadership.

This inaugural program combines protected research time with engagement in the Center’s intellectual community. Scholars also lead seminars, a student study group, office hours, and a public Harvard event.

  • Financial assistance is available according to individual circumstances and may support a course buyout or another protected-time arrangement.
  • The Center anticipates visa sponsorship, subject to institutional policies and individual circumstances.
  • Residency lasts one semester or a full academic year.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or comparable terminal research degree.
  • They must currently hold a faculty or research appointment at a degree-granting university or recognized research institution.
  • Proposed research must align with the Center’s mission and address urban problem-solving or city leadership.
  • No nationality restriction is stated; the form accepts U.S. citizens, permanent residents, non-U.S. citizens, and other statuses.
