BIOPHAM is a two-year, 120-ECTS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master taught entirely in English. The University of Lille coordinates the four-university consortium with the University of Pisa, the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
Students study materials science and physics for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical applications while moving among partner institutions in France, Italy, Poland and Spain. Three tracks cover pharmaceutical materials, biomaterials for pharmaceutical applications and molecular science for pharmaceutical applications.
Benefits & funding
- Fully funded scholarship holders receive €1,400 per month throughout the two-year programme, up to €33,600, to cover travel, visas, installation and subsistence.
- Scholarship holders and the first 30 non-scholarship holders pay no tuition or other mandatory participation costs for the two BIOPHAM years.
- All students receive health insurance for the full study period.
- The programme requires 120 ECTS: 90 ECTS of courses and practical training plus a 30-ECTS master’s thesis.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold, or be completing, a first higher-education degree equivalent to at least 180 ECTS; the degree must be awarded before enrolment.
- Eligible degree fields are physics, materials science, chemistry, nanoscience and bioengineering, including the specific related fields listed by BIOPHAM.
- The selection committee assesses applicants’ physics and mathematics preparation; the programme describes 18 ECTS in each area as the usual background.
- English proficiency at B2 or equivalent is required. Published thresholds include IELTS 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, internet-based TOEFL 90 with writing 20, TOEIC 785, Duolingo above 100, or accepted Cambridge qualifications. Prior study taught in English may also be documented.
- Applicants who already hold a master’s degree may apply if they justify undertaking a second master’s. PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible.
