The Beit Cambridge Scholarship funds a Master’s at the University of Cambridge, offered by the Cambridge Trust in partnership with The Beit Trust. It is tenable at any College and in any subject except premium-rate courses.
The Beit Trust funds Master’s study for people from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The next round covers courses starting in September 2027.
Benefits & funding
- International-rate tuition and fees, plus an annual living allowance for a single person.
- Student visa, Immigration Health Surcharge, TB test and biometric costs.
- Economy flights to the UK and home, arrival and departure allowances, and a laptop allowance on request.
- No support for spouses or dependants.
- Scholars must intend to return home; a UK Graduate visa stay is backed only for relevant work followed by return.
Eligibility
- Nationals of Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe who are permanent residents of one of them and live there or intend to return after study.
- A good undergraduate degree; Beit prefers First or Upper Second Class, but lower classes are not excluded.
- A one-year taught Cambridge Master’s not yet begun; premium-rate courses such as the MBA and MFin are excluded.
- Postgraduate degree holders are considered only in exceptional cases.
- Medical and veterinary applicants need an 18-month internship and at least one year of in-country posting.
- Current Beit Trust or University of Cambridge staff, staff who left under two years ago, and their relatives are ineligible.
- Work experience is preferred, not required.

Application process
- 1Apply for a Cambridge Master’s by your course’s funding deadline, indicating you want funding; Cambridge charges an application fee unless a waiver applies.
- 2Obtain an offer (conditional is fine).
- 3Submit one Beit Trust application, listing up to four partner-university courses, between 1 December 2026 and 12 February 2027.
- 4Arrange three references: academic, character and employer (if applicable); prompt late arrivals are accepted.
- 5If shortlisted, attend an in-person interview in Lusaka, Harare or Blantyre.
