AYUSH Scholarship Scheme for Malaysia National

Reopens ~May 2027

The AYUSH Scholarship Scheme for Malaysia National is a country-specific award carried on ICCR’s A2A scholarship list as scheme G0616. Twenty scholarships are set aside each year, and Malaysia is the only eligible nationality.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations administers it as agency work for India’s Ministry of AYUSH. The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur describes the Malaysian allocation as bachelor-level study in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy; postgraduate and doctoral AYUSH study runs through ICCR’s separate scheme for other foreign nationals.

Applications move through the A2A portal on a single annual cycle. The Indian university, institute or college decides admission on its own criteria, and ICCR confirms the scholarship only after an institution admits the applicant.

Benefits & funding

  • Tuition and the compulsory course fees are paid as per the institution’s actual charges.
  • Living allowance of INR 18,000 a month for undergraduate study under ICCR’s published AYUSH rates (the same rate card pays INR 35,500 to 38,000 for MD and INR 43,500 for PhD scholars on the postgraduate AYUSH routes).
  • House rent allowance is paid against actuals where the institution does not provide accommodation, up to INR 6,500 a month in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, or INR 5,000 a month in other cities.
  • Contingent grant of INR 4,500 a year at undergraduate level.
  • One economy-class return air ticket by the shortest or cheapest route: to India at the time of admission, and home after the course ends.
  • Three months of stipend are released on arrival; scholars then open a State Bank of India account within a month for the payments that follow.
  • ICCR pays no medical costs: scholars cover all illness and treatment themselves, through their own health insurance (at least INR 5 lakh cover) or out of pocket.

Eligibility

  • Open to Malaysian nationals; the 20 slots are reserved for Malaysia alone.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of admission. There is no upper age limit.
  • The four medicine degrees (BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, BHMS) run 5½ years including a one-year clinical internship and require 12 years of schooling with physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Applicants must be medically fit and have enough English to follow the course; teaching is in English and Hindi.
  • Applications are submitted online through the A2A portal and are handled by the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur.
