Australia & New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge — Course / Training

The Australia & New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge introduces high school students to brain function, neuroscience research and related careers. It is funded by the Australasian Neuroscience Society and begins with an online assessment administered through Education Perfect.

High-scoring students may advance to regional activities and then an online national final. The Australian and New Zealand national winners may progress to the International Brain Bee.

Benefits & funding

Entry is free, with the event funded by the Australasian Neuroscience Society.
Education Perfect provides 2026 Round 1 participation certificate templates but does not offer prizes for that round.
Advancing students may join regional university or research-institution activities and meet neuroscience researchers at the national stage.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled in Year 10 in Australia or Year 11 in New Zealand; all high schools in both countries may enter students.
A teacher must register students through Education Perfect.
Students must complete the supervised Round 1 assessment during school hours within the published assessment window.

Application process

Ask a teacher to enrol eligible students through the dedicated Education Perfect registration page.

Use the Brain Bee learning material in the Education Perfect Science Content Library.

Complete the supervised online Round 1 assessment during the published March window.

Wait for the state or regional coordinator to invite high scorers to Round 2.

Regional winners advance to the national final, and national winners may progress to the International Brain Bee.
