Amherst College, a liberal arts college in Amherst, Massachusetts, runs one need-based aid program for international and domestic undergraduates and meets the full calculated need of every admitted student.
Admission is need-blind for all applicants, international ones included: asking for aid is not weighed in the admission decision. Aid comes as scholarships and grants plus student employment.
Benefits & funding
- Aid covers 100% of the family’s calculated financial need through scholarships, grants and student employment.
- The initial offer contains no student loans; students may still choose to borrow.
- Average aid award: more than US$71,000 in 2024–25.
Eligibility
- Admitted first-year or transfer applicants to Amherst’s undergraduate program.
- Open to non-U.S. citizens, including DACA recipients, undocumented applicants, those with fragile citizenship and non-citizen permanent residents; U.S. citizens use the domestic aid route.
- Need-based: the award depends on the family’s calculated need.
