The second International Summer School on IBR-dominated Power Systems was jointly organised by Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Imperial College London’s Control and Power Group. It brought participants to Tsinghua’s Beijing campus for seven days of technical sessions plus an optional two-day technical tour.

The programme covered converter modelling and control, stability, protection, monitoring, simulation, system security, operations, planning, markets and economic analysis. Imperial reported that 80 students attended the 2025 edition, while the application announcement had offered 100 competitively selected places; no later edition is currently listed by the organisers.

Benefits & funding

  • The 2025 academic participation fee was RMB 6,000 for seven days of technical sessions or RMB 7,500 with the two-day technical tour.
  • The programme advertised teaching by more than 30 experts, visits to laboratories and energy facilities, cultural activities and an international professional network.
  • Campus accommodation cost RMB 40 per person per night in a double room or RMB 30 in a triple room; nearby hotels were approximately RMB 500 per night and had to be booked independently.
  • Tsinghua offered a formal invitation letter to participants who needed a visa.

Eligibility

  • Applicants could be master’s or PhD students, early-career researchers or industry professionals in power engineering, energy systems or a related field.
  • The official announcement published no nationality, residency, age, gender or work-experience restriction.
  • The programme was in person at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
