The 2026 ASEAN-Korea Young Scholar Research Grant supports postgraduate fieldwork on Southeast Asia, ASEAN, and ASEAN-Korea relations. The Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies runs the grant through the ASEAN-Korea Platform for Great Minds, with support from the Government of the Republic of Korea through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund.
Grantees conduct approved fieldwork in ASEAN countries or South Korea and join an online Young Scholar Research Workshop. The program is designed to build field-based research capacity and academic exchange among emerging Southeast Asianists.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be nationals of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, or South Korea.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or doctoral program at a recognized institution in an ASEAN member state or South Korea.
- Proposed research must concern Southeast Asian Studies, ASEAN Studies, or ASEAN-Korea Studies, including Southeast Asian societies, regional issues, or ASEAN-Korea relations.
- Primarily technical, laboratory-based, or exclusively STEM proposals are ineligible unless they engage strongly with the social sciences or humanities and clearly contribute to understanding Southeast Asia or ASEAN-Korea relations.
- Enrollment at an institution in the applicant’s home country and research beyond the applicant’s own national context receive priority; these are selection preferences, not eligibility gates.
