Yenching Academy of Peking University runs a two-year, interdisciplinary master’s program in China Studies in Beijing. It enrolls about 120 new students a year from China and abroad.
The call for the 2027 cohort opened on September 1, 2026 for international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan applicants. The general deadline is 09:00 Beijing time on November 30, 2026.
Benefits & funding
- First-year Yenching Fellowship for every admitted student: tuition, housing in Yenching Academy House, monthly stipend, basic medical insurance, research expenses and one round trip between a home-country base city and Beijing
- Second year: students in good standing who stay in Beijing can apply for a fellowship covering tuition, housing support, insurance and a stipend
- Living on campus is required in year one
Eligibility
- A bachelor’s degree in any field, or a bachelor’s due by August 2027
- International route: non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport; former Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan citizens need a foreign passport issued before April 30, 2021 and proof of renouncing Chinese nationality
- Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan applicants and Mainland applicants use separate Chinese routes
- English: IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 100, Cambridge 185, CET-6 600 or TEM-4 “良好”, taken after September 1, 2025; native speakers and English-taught graduates may be exempt, except Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan applicants
- Partner-university applicants must pass internal screening
- No strict age cut-off

- 3IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge scores must be sent directly by the test body.
- 4Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan applicants also register with Peking University’s graduate admissions and mail hard copies.
- 5Interviews: online for international candidates; in person at Peking University for Chinese candidates, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
