The National Centre for Writing, Passa Porta and Flanders Literature offer this month-long residency in Brussels in 2027. It is intended for an England-based literary writer to focus primarily on a manuscript in Passa Porta’s furnished apartment.
The resident may also meet Belgian writers and translators or join cultural events in Brussels and Flanders. The exact residency date will be agreed with the selected writer.
Benefits & funding
- Free accommodation for one month in Passa Porta’s self-catering apartment in central Brussels, with a workspace, internet, printer and a laptop if needed.
- Train travel to and from Brussels is covered by the National Centre for Writing.
- Passa Porta provides a €1,200 stipend toward living costs.
- Optional public or literary assignments requested by Passa Porta are paid separately.
- The resident must arrange and pay for their own travel and health insurance; telephone use is also at the resident’s expense.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be writers based in England; there is no stated nationality restriction.
- Eligible forms are novels, short stories, poetry and literary non-fiction.
- Applicants must have at least one work published by a literary publisher; self-published work does not qualify.
- A manuscript produced as part of academic research is not eligible.
- No degree, age or gender requirement is stated.
