The Wesleyan University Freeman Asian Scholarship Program supports about 11 incoming students each year. Eligible students pursue a bachelor’s degree in person at Wesleyan in Middletown, Connecticut.

The award is automatically considered through the regular undergraduate admission and financial-aid process, with no separate scholarship application. Wesleyan continues the program as an institutional scholarship following its establishment by the Freeman Foundation.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.
  • Dual United States citizens and United States permanent residents are not eligible.
  • Applicants must seek need-based financial aid when applying to Wesleyan and demonstrate financial need.
  • Applicants must not have previously enrolled full-time at a college or university.
  • First-year applicants must have a high school diploma, a recognized equivalent, or meet Wesleyan’s stated alternative criteria.
  • International applicants seeking financial aid are considered through Regular Decision, not Early Decision.

Application process

    Submit the Common Application or Coalition Application via SCOIR, including Wesleyan’s member-specific questions.

    Arrange for the school report, official transcript, counselor recommendation, mid-year grades, and two academic teacher evaluations.

    Apply for need-based financial aid at the same time using the required international financial-aid forms.

    No separate Freeman scholarship application is required; eligible candidates are considered automatically.

    If selected as a finalist, participate in an informal virtual interview with program alumni if invited.

    Check the Regular Decision result; awardees are notified on the Regular Decision release date.
