The Visegrad Scholarship at OSA is a joint grant scheme of the International Visegrad Fund and the Blinken OSA Archivum, a Budapest research center attached to Central European University. It funds a research stay of up to eight weeks at the archive, which holds one of the largest collections on the Cold War, communism, human rights and the history of the region. Fellows pursue their own project drawn from the holdings, supported by the archive’s staff, a designated advisor and a Visegrad seminar. Around twenty scholarships are awarded each year across two application rounds. For 2026/2027 the suggested theme is “Naming Reality”.

Benefits & funding

  • €3,000 for a full eight-week (roughly two-month) stay; shorter periods are funded pro-rata.
  • The grant covers travel to and from Budapest, modest subsistence and accommodation.
  • Reference services, an introduction to the collections and a designated research advisor.
  • Feedback through the Visegrad seminars and access to the CEU academic community.

Eligibility

  • Open to anyone holding an MA degree in the social sciences or the humanities.
  • Open to all nationalities — the call is not restricted to citizens of Visegrad (V4) countries.
  • Socially engaged artists, journalists, scholars at risk and refugees of conscience are especially encouraged.
  • Proof of advanced English is required, except for native speakers or graduates of English-language institutions.

Application process

    Prepare a merged PDF with an application letter, a research description of about 800 words, a CV, proof of English proficiency and the contact details of two referees.

    Artists include a portfolio in place of the research description.

    Submit through the online application form before the round’s deadline.

    Await the selection decision — results for the July round are announced around late August.
