The Victory Congressional Internship is run by LGBTQ+ Victory Institute for undergraduates interested in public leadership. Interns spend eight weeks in Washington, DC, in the office of a Congressional Equality Caucus member or another LGBTQ+-friendly member of Congress.
Alongside the placement, interns join a leadership development and policy-careers program. Cohorts run in spring, summer and fall, and each intern attends the Institute’s three-day International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference that December.
Benefits & funding
- Free housing in downtown Washington, DC.
- A living stipend equal to $15 per hour.
- Travel to and from Washington, DC at the start and end of the program.
- Academic credit, where the intern’s college or university grants it.
- Airfare, a shared hotel room and fees for the December International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference.
Eligibility
- U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or others with permission to work in the U.S.; F-1 student visa holders are not eligible.
- At least 18 years old by the day of arrival in Washington, DC.
- Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree, with at least one year completed by the program start.
- Spring and fall interns must not graduate before the program ends; summer interns may be current undergraduates or have graduated that spring.
- Active involvement in public or community service.
