Vermont Studio Center hosts artists and writers working across all media and genres for focused residencies in Johnson, Vermont. The current open call selects residents for sessions from July through December 2027.
Residents receive private work space, lodging, meals, and access to visiting artists and writers. The program combines independent creative time with optional talks, consultations, presentations, and open studios.
Benefits & funding
- Sessions last two, three, or four weeks.
- Every accepted resident receives a fellowship; 35% receive a full fellowship and all others receive partial support.
- Partial-fellowship recipients pay US$2,700 for two weeks, US$3,825 for three weeks, or US$4,950 for four weeks.
- The residency includes a private room in shared housing, a private studio, meals, and access to the Visiting Artist and Visiting Writer Program.
- Residents arrange and pay for their own travel to and from the campus.
Eligibility
- Artists and writers from around the world may apply across all media and genres.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
- No degree, work-experience, gender, nationality, or residency requirement is published.
- Collaborative pairs of no more than two people may submit one application; residency fees apply to both people.

Application process
- 1Open the Vermont Studio Center application page and continue to the SlideRoom portal.
- 2Apply as either a Visual Artist or Writer, then select the medium or genre that best represents the practice.
- 3Submit the required work sample: five images for visual art, up to three minutes for video, or a writing sample within the genre-specific page limit.
- 4Keep the portfolio or writing sample anonymous and disclose how AI or new media was used when applicable.
- 5Submit by September 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
