The University of Memphis, a public university in Memphis, Tennessee, gives merit scholarships to international students it newly admits to a degree program.
One track serves first-time freshmen and one serves graduate students. Both are decided from the admission application, with no separate scholarship essay, so grades and test scores carry the case.
Benefits & funding
- Freshmen: US$5,000–14,000 a year by tier (US$20,000–56,000 over four years), renewable for three more years.
- Graduate students: US$2,100 per semester, US$4,200 per academic year.
- Paid in fall and spring only. Graduates renew with full-time study and a 3.0 UofM GPA each semester; freshmen renew with 12+ credits a semester, good academic standing and service hours.
- F-1 students must still show US$32,824 in funds for one year’s tuition and living costs.
Eligibility
- Citizens of any country except the United States, newly admitted to a degree program and studying on campus on an F-1 or J-1 visa; first-time entrants only.
- Not eligible: dual citizens, permanent residents, continuing students, and holders of an assistantship or other university funding.
- Freshmen: a 3.25+ high school GPA with ACT 22+ or SAT 1100+, or a 3.80+ GPA alone.
- Graduates: a graduate degree program other than law (certificates excluded), with a 3.25/4.0 GPA, or a GRE of 310 (150+ verbal and quantitative, 2.5 writing) or GMAT equivalent.
- Out-of-state US citizens and permanent residents may qualify for the same graduate award through domestic admission.
