University of Ha’il is a public university in the city of Ha’il in northern Saudi Arabia. Its Scholarships Administration, part of the Deanship of Student Affairs, awards study seats to non-Saudi men and women for bachelor’s degrees.

There are two routes. Internal scholarships serve non-Saudis of any nationality already living in the kingdom. External scholarships serve students abroad from countries with Islamic, Arab, fraternal or cultural ties to Saudi Arabia, and both routes run through the Ministry of Education’s Study in Saudi platform.

The university lists its 2024 scholarship graduates by nationality. Yemen (207), Syria (127) and Palestine (97) lead a list of more than 30 countries.

Benefits & funding

  • The scholarship is a funded study seat on one of the university’s bachelor’s programs.
  • Under the national rules for public universities, a full scholarship brings accommodation, health care for the student and accompanying family, a payment on arrival, annual travel tickets under the regulations, and the same benefits as regular students.
  • A partial scholarship carries only part of that package, such as the seat alone or the seat with housing.
  • The university’s Housing and Nutrition Administration provides housing for scholarship students.
  • The Deanship of Student Affairs also runs welfare activities for scholarship students, such as Eid clothing and a Ramadan Umrah trip.
  • Neither the university nor the Ministry publishes a monthly allowance figure.

Eligibility

  • Open to non-Saudi nationals; men and women may apply on both routes.
  • Applicants must be 17 to 25 years old on both routes.
  • A secondary-school certificate or its equivalent is required.
  • Internal route: legal residency in Saudi Arabia, valid for at least four months on the submission date.
  • Internal route: Qudurat and Tahsili test scores, fluent spoken and written Arabic, and no admission at another Saudi university.
  • Internal route: the same admission standards as Saudi applicants apply.
  • Internal route: the university’s web page requires the certificate to be under two years old, while its 1447 AH admission guide allows up to five.
  • External route: applicants live outside Saudi Arabia and hold a certificate earned outside the kingdom, no more than three years old.
  • External route: good conduct, medical fitness, full-time daytime study, a signed pledge to follow university rules, and every document attested by the Saudi embassy in the home country.
  • External route: no earlier scholarship at a Saudi university and no dismissal from a previous university.
  • External route: a female applicant needs a mahram who holds a scholarship or legal residency.
  • Health and medical majors are not offered to scholarship students.
  • Some majors admit one gender only: most engineering majors and archaeology take men, while interior design engineering and kindergarten education take women.
