The ALISEO scholarship (borsa di studio universitaria) is the regional right-to-study (diritto allo studio) award for students enrolled at the University of Genoa and at Liguria’s AFAM arts and music institutions. It is administered by ALISEO, the Regional Agency of Liguria for Students and Guidance, on behalf of Regione Liguria, and is need- and merit-based rather than tied to a specific course. Winners receive full exemption from university contributions and from the regional right-to-study tax, plus a scholarship paid partly in cash and partly in services (canteen meals and accommodation). It is the main funded route the University of Genoa points international students toward, alongside the university’s own fee-waiver incentives.
Benefits & funding
- Scholarship worth up to €7,172 per year for off-site (fuori sede) students, inclusive of accommodation and meal services.
- Minimum award around €2,891 per year for the most economically disadvantaged in-sede students; the amount is tiered by student status (in sede / pendolare / fuori sede) and economic bracket.
- Full exemption from university contributions and from the regional right-to-study tax for every scholarship winner.
- Access to ALISEO canteens (mensa) and student accommodation; over 100 new bed spaces for scholarship holders are being added for 2026/2027.
- The award covers one academic year and can be held again in later years by re-applying and meeting the merit thresholds.
