The United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Asia-Pacific is an intensive, residential training course organised by the Codification Division of the UN Office of Legal Affairs, in cooperation with the Government of Thailand and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The 2026 edition runs from 23 November to 16 December 2026 at the ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok and admits up to 26 participants. Leading scholars and practitioners teach core subjects of international law alongside topics of particular relevance to the region. It is designed for qualified legal professionals — in particular government lawyers and teachers of international law — from the Asia-Pacific region, with priority to developing countries and emerging economies.
Benefits & funding
- A limited number of full fellowships cover economy-class travel, accommodation, medical insurance, participation, and all training materials, plus a modest stipend for living expenses (food, local transport) at a decent but not luxurious standard.
- A limited number of self-funded places are also offered; self-funded participants bear their own travel, accommodation, insurance and living costs but receive the training materials.
- Both fellowship and self-funded applicants are assessed through the same process and the same selection criteria.
- The United Nations charges no fee at any stage of the application or selection process.
