UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) is a national science and technology university in Ulsan, South Korea, and its Graduate School admits international students into master’s, integrated master’s–PhD, and PhD tracks across most majors; the Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering major is restricted to Korean nationals. Programs sit across the College of Engineering, the College of Information and Biotechnology, the College of Natural Sciences, the School of Business Administration, and UNIST’s professional graduate schools. All courses are conducted in English.

Government Scholarship and UNIST Scholarship students receive tuition support and stipends, while Other Scholarship students pay full tuition and receive no stipend from UNIST. Funding is decided with admission — there is no separate scholarship form to file.

Admission runs in fixed rounds tied to the Spring and Fall intakes. The initial application and supporting documents are submitted online; final candidates must submit required originals by post or in person.

  • UNIST Scholarship students pay tuition first, then receive full tuition support through their adviser during the semester; the stipend includes this tuition support.
  • Other Scholarship students pay full tuition of ₩3,840,000 per semester and receive no stipend from UNIST.
  • Additional living-expense support listed by the university: ₩240,000 per month for master’s students and ₩395,000 per month for doctoral students, conditional on a GPA of at least 3.0/4.3 and a minimum course load.
  • Scholarships cannot in principle be held twice over — awards are not combined.
  • On-campus dormitory (about 95% of UNIST students live on campus), campus healthcare centre, and D-2 student-visa support through the International Affairs team.

Eligibility

  • International applicants may apply to the listed graduate programs except Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering, which is restricted to Korean nationals; no general residency requirement is stated.
  • Master’s and integrated master’s–PhD applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or expect to receive it by the first day of class. PhD applicants must hold a master’s degree or expect to receive it by the first day of class.
  • Foreign applicants must submit an accepted English proficiency score unless exempt because they hold citizenship in, or physically completed a bachelor’s degree or higher in, one of the 19 countries listed in the guidelines; submit a university certificate confirming English-medium instruction for a bachelor’s degree or higher; or are current or expected graduates of a regular UNIST degree program and submit an official transcript.
  • No Korean-language test is listed among the requirements — instruction is entirely in English.
  • One degree and one program per admission cycle; parallel applications are not accepted.
  • Applicants apply to a specific department or graduate school, and each program sets its own academic requirements.

Application process
