The UCL200 Laws LLM Future Scholars’ Award is a means-tested scholarship from UCL’s Faculty of Laws in London. It waives the full tuition fee for the 10-month, full-time LLM and adds £15,000 for living costs.
It is aimed at UK-domiciled students of limited means who want the LLM to lead into doctoral study and an academic career. Selectors take account of financial and personal circumstances, and judge doctoral potential from the written work in the LLM application.
The award shares one guidance document and application form with the UCL200 Laws LLM Opportunity Scholarship. The 2026–27 round closed on 16 April 2026, and UCL says details of the next cycle will be published later.

Eligibility
- A complete application (reference included) for the full-time LLM starting September 2026, submitted by 12:00 UK time on 16 April 2026.
- Standard UCL LLM entry requirements: a law qualification such as an LLB, JD or GDL, with a good 2:1 and evidence of first-class ability.
- In financial hardship and unable to afford the LLM; applicants under 25 may be treated as financially dependent on their parents unless they have lived outside the family home without financial contribution for three years.
- No part of their education at a fee-paying school; only non-fee-paying, state-funded schools or institutions.
- Eligible for Home (UK) fee status and UK domiciled: born in the UK, UK domicile of origin, or three years’ ordinary residence in the UK with settled status by the end of that period.
- Does not hold, and is not studying for, a Master’s degree or equivalent, which includes a postgraduate diploma, postgraduate certificate or Juris Doctor.
- Prior outstanding academic achievement, plus evidence of a serious intention to use the LLM as a step towards doctoral study.
- Full-time students only. No nationality or age limit is stated.

Application process
- 1Apply for UCL’s full-time LLM and make sure the application, including the reference, is complete by the deadline.
- 2Read the UCL Laws guidance and complete the scholarship form: personal details, household income and size, other funding, student loan debt, and background questions such as first-generation status, parental occupation, care experience and homelessness.
- 3In the written statement, set out the area you plan to research in a PhD, what draws you to it, and how a UCL LLM supports your plan to become an academic. The form box takes 600 words; a longer statement of up to 1,500 words goes by email to llm-admissions@ucl.ac.uk with your full name and application number.
- 4Shortlisted applicants provide evidence of household income, such as bank statements, tax returns and P60s.
- 5Shortlisted applicants give further detail on their financial circumstances at interview.
