Transfyr is a Boston-area company building an observability layer for how science is actually carried out. Its 2026-2027 fellowship takes on researchers full-time for twelve months, each leading one focused research project. The subject is machine-learning systems that can make sense of scientific work as it happens across people, instruments, protocols, repeated attempts, automation and real outcomes. Transfyr is assembling what it calls the world’s largest multimodal dataset of scientific execution, and fellows work with that material alongside the company’s scientists, lab operators and ML researchers. The published research agenda has eight areas: multimodal reasoning, conflicting evidence, long-context scientific memory, real-world evaluations, tacit expertise, physical-world AI, biosecurity and bio-risk observability, and scientific execution ontology. Fellows are expected to finish the year with a publishable or demo-grade research artifact, and promising work has a route into real products.

Eligibility
- Current graduate students who are able to take leave, recent PhD graduates, and postdoctoral researchers.
- Fields: machine learning, computer science, computational biology, robotics, human-computer interaction, statistics or adjacent areas.
- Strong machine learning fundamentals, evidence of exceptional research taste, comfort with ambiguity, and curiosity about how science actually happens in physical environments.
- Full-time for twelve months. Current students should be able to self-certify that they can take leave or otherwise commit full-time.
- Open to all nationalities. International applicants are welcome, and visa support is available for selected fellows.
- Applicants should be available to start around September 2026.
- Selected fellows are expected to be based in Boston/Cambridge full-time. Remote arrangements may be considered by exception when the project and the candidate make it workable.
