The Singapore AI Safety Fellowship is a full-time residential research program run by SASH in Singapore. Fellows work with experienced mentors on technical AI safety and governance projects intended to inform practical work as well as research outputs.

The 2026 cohort runs from 21 September to 4 December, and applications closed on 10 July. SASH has not published the next application opening date.

Benefits & funding

  • SGD 5,000 monthly stipend for the three-month fellowship.
  • Housing throughout the fellowship and travel to and from Singapore.
  • Up to USD 30,000 in compute for projects that require it.
  • Weekly mentor meetings, dedicated research and career support, central office space, community events, and visa arrangements for accepted fellows.

Eligibility

  • Emerging researchers with a strong record of technical research.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in beneficial AI development and comfort working across cultures and disciplines.
  • Fellows must participate full-time and relocate to Singapore for the full three months; remote and part-time participation are not offered.
  • The published program criteria list no restriction by nationality, residence, degree level, age, or gender.

Application process

    Submit the written application, which SASH estimates takes about one hour, and rank preferred research areas and mentors.

    Shortlisted candidates complete standardized assessments.
  3. 3
    Candidates then complete a mentor-specific work task and/or interview.
  4. 4
    SASH matches fellows and mentors using both sides’ ranked preferences.
