The Rhodes Scholarship is an annual, merit-based postgraduate award run by the Rhodes Trust for full-time study at the University of Oxford. Applicants worldwide use the Trust’s eligibility checker to identify the constituency route tied to their country or strongest connection.

The current application cycle is for Oxford entry in October 2027. Scholars join an international community at Rhodes House while studying most full-time postgraduate courses offered by Oxford.

Benefits & funding

  • The award covers University of Oxford course fees.
  • For 2025–26, the annual stipend is £20,400, paid as £1,700 per month for accommodation and other living expenses.
  • The Trust covers the Oxford application fee, student visa fee, Immigration Health Surcharge, and two economy flights for the beginning and end of study.
  • Scholars receive a settling-in allowance; support is also available for visa renewal and a further health surcharge when moving to a second Oxford course.
  • Funding normally supports two or more years, with up to three years of fees and stipend for an eligible DPhil route.

Eligibility

  • Applicants from around the world may apply, but the eligibility checker determines the correct constituency from country, citizenship, residence, education, or strongest connection.
  • Detailed eligibility rules, including age and constituency connection, vary by route and must be checked before applying.
  • Applicants must be preparing for postgraduate study and meet the admission requirements for their chosen full-time Oxford course.
  • No general work-experience or gender requirement is stated for the scholarship; individual Oxford courses may impose their own requirements.
