AquaH is an Erasmus Mundus joint master delivered by a consortium led from Ghent University with partners in Norway, the Netherlands and Spain. It trains students in aquatic animal disease prevention, health management, welfare and One Health approaches.

All students begin the first semester in Ghent, then follow a learning path at NTNU, Wageningen University, or the Barcelona universities. The fourth semester is devoted to thesis research with a consortium or associate partner.

Benefits & funding

  • The four-semester programme combines taught courses, practical work, an internship or consultancy component depending on the learning path, and a 30-ECTS thesis.
  • Participation costs are EUR 3,000 per year for nationals of the EEA, North Macedonia, Turkey and Serbia, and EUR 9,000 per year for all other nationalities.
  • The participation cost includes tuition, insurance, teaching activities, laboratory courses, excursions and thesis research.
  • AquaH currently offers no scholarship programme of its own; its published two-year estimates add EUR 24,000 for living costs and EUR 2,000 or EUR 3,000 for travel, depending on the fee category.

Eligibility

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS, equivalent to three years, with a GPA of at least 70% of the maximum grade.
  • The transcript must show basic science training in at least five of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology and engineering, plus basic statistics.
  • Meet the published English requirement, such as TOEFL iBT 92 with speaking 23, IELTS Academic 6.5 with at least 6 in writing and speaking, Cambridge C1 Advanced, or Cambridge B2 First at 176 or Grade A; stated English-medium degree exemptions are limited to specified countries.
  • Academic or professional aquaculture experience is recommended, not required. The official pages state no nationality, residence, age, gender or work-experience gate.

Application process

    Use the AquaH admission page to enter the Ghent University OASIS application portal when the cycle opens.
  2. 2
    Upload a passport scan, a CV of no more than two pages, bachelor’s degree or final-year enrolment proof, transcript, English evidence and a motivation letter of no more than one page.

    Submit simple scans initially; applicants who pass the academic eligibility check are later asked for legalised diploma and transcript copies.
  4. 4
    After receiving the admission letter, complete any visa and proof-of-solvency steps required for study in Belgium and mobility within the consortium.
