The Technical Studentship lets students in applied sciences, computing and engineering work on real CERN projects alongside its scientists and engineers in Geneva, Switzerland.
Vacancies are posted per field (applied physics, materials, civil, electrical/electronics, IT and robotics, mechanical). The open 2027-1 round is fully onsite, with an ideal start of 1 April 2027.
Benefits & funding
- Net monthly allowance of CHF 3,486.
- CERN health insurance, with the contribution deducted from the allowance.
- Family supplement and travel to Geneva, depending on individual circumstances.
- 30 days’ paid leave a year plus a two-week annual closure.
- Contract of 4 to 12 months.
Eligibility
- Nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State; Croatian, Cypriot, Latvian, Lithuanian, Pakistani and Turkish nationals cannot currently be considered because the associate-membership ceiling has been reached.
- Eligible nationalities: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Brazil, Chile, India, Ireland and Ukraine.
- At least 18 months (3 semesters) of study in the field completed by selection; full-time enrolment throughout the studentship.
- PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible.
- Good English or French.
