TDR Postgraduate Scholarship in Implementation Science

Benefits & funding

Eligibility

• Applicants must be both nationals and residents of an eligible low- or middle-income country in the WHO African Region: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
• Applicants must be under 35 when applying.
• Applicants must qualify for the MSc Epidemiology programme with a four-year honours degree, an MBBCh or another health-related degree.
• Applicants must be proficient in English and interested in an implementation-research career focused on infectious diseases of poverty.
• Current work with a health programme was a preference, not a hard eligibility gate, in the latest call. Shortlisted applicants had to provide an institutional support letter confirming leave and explaining how the training would strengthen their home institution.

Application process

   Wait for a new Wits-specific scholarship call; the published 2024 call is closed.

   Apply separately to Wits for the MSc Epidemiology field of Implementation Science and upload the required motivation, CV, referee reports, academic records and other supporting documents.

   If qualifications were earned outside South Africa, obtain a SAQA evaluation or proof of application and upload it with the university application.

   Submit the separate TDR scholarship packet specified in the new call; the last cycle required a motivation letter, passport bio-data page, proof of the Wits application, a CV and two referee reports sent directly by the referees.

   If shortlisted, complete the online quantitative and qualitative assessment and provide the institutional support letter.
