Taiwan Scholarship Program

Benefits & funding

• The MOE pays approved tuition and miscellaneous study fees up to NTD 40,000 per semester.
• Undergraduate recipients receive NTD 15,000 per month; master’s and doctoral recipients receive NTD 20,000 per month.
• Maximum award periods are four years for a bachelor’s degree, two years for a master’s degree, and four years for a doctorate, with a five-year lifetime maximum across awards.
• Recipients pay any tuition above the cap unless their institution discounts it, as well as administration fees, thesis supervision, insurance, accommodation and internet access.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be foreign nationals with a secondary-school diploma or post-secondary degree, a strong academic record and good character. ROC nationals, overseas compatriot students, and applicants from Mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau are not eligible for this MOE program.
• Applicants already enrolled or registered at a university or college in Taiwan are ineligible, except students graduating that year who apply for the next degree level.
• Applicants are ineligible if they previously studied in Taiwan at the same degree level, are exchange or dual or joint-degree students under an institutional agreement, have held Taiwan Scholarships for five years in total, or had a Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship revoked.
• Applicants may not concurrently receive another Taiwan government or Taiwan educational-institution scholarship, except a school discount covering tuition above the MOE cap.
• Applicants must apply separately for admission to a Taiwan university or college by that institution’s deadline. Language evidence depends on the program language and local-office rules; Chinese-taught routes generally require TOCFL Level 3, while English-taught routes may require approved English-language evidence.

Application process

   Check the current call from the Taiwan Representative Office responsible for the applicant’s country of citizenship, including its dates, quota and extra requirements.

   Apply separately to an eligible university or college in Taiwan.

   Prepare the local scholarship form, nationality evidence, diploma and transcripts, proof of the university application, required language evidence, two signed reference letters and any local-office additions.

   Submit the scholarship application to the responsible Taiwan Representative Office within its stated window.

   Attend an interview if invited, then provide the admission letter by the local deadline if selected.
