SWUFE’s Type B High-Level Postgraduate Program supports international students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in Chengdu. Southwestern University of Finance and Economics recommends candidates, after which the China Scholarship Council conducts a comprehensive review.
The program uses individual application, university recommendation, expert review, and merit-based admission. Available Chinese- and English-taught degrees span economics, business, law, public policy, social sciences, computing, and related fields.

- The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and comprehensive medical insurance.
- Master’s degree study lasts two to three academic years, while doctoral study generally lasts four academic years.
- Applicants entering Chinese-taught study with HSK Level 4 at 180 or above may receive one preparatory Chinese-language year, subject to reaching HSK Level 5 at 180 during that year.
- Applicants must pay a non-refundable CNY 600 SWUFE application fee.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports, in good physical and mental health, with strong academic records.
- Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be no older than 35; doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree and be no older than 40.
- Final-year students must obtain the required recognized degree before enrollment.
- Chinese-taught programs require HSK Level 4 or above; direct degree entry requires a valid HSK Level 5 score of at least 180, unless SWUFE accepts proof of a prior China-based degree taught in Chinese.
- For English-taught programs, non-native English speakers without at least two years of English-medium degree study need an official result such as IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 85 or above.
- Applicants must complete the scholarship application independently and may not simultaneously hold another Chinese government or university scholarship for the same study period, except one-time awards.

Application process
- 1Prepare the required photo, notarized highest diploma or expected-graduation proof, transcripts, two academic recommendation letters, study plan, language evidence, passport page, medical form, and police-clearance document.
- 2Register in the SWUFE International Students Service System, complete the application, upload the documents, submit, and pay the CNY 600 fee.
- 3Follow SWUFE’s instructions to complete the CSC system under Type B with agency number 10651; the attached guide directs selected applicants to do this after receiving SWUFE pre-admission.
- 4Upload the SWUFE pre-admission letter in the CSC system; doctoral applicants must also upload the supervisor-signed study plan provided by SWUFE.
- 5Attend SWUFE’s online examination and interview if the initial review finds the application eligible.
