Summer UROPS and Summer URAPS for Exchange Students (NUS Faculty of Science)

Summer UROPS and Summer URAPS place undergraduates from selected partner universities in National University of Singapore Faculty of Science laboratories over the Singapore summer term. Summer UROPS runs for 10 weeks and carries 8 units with a grade on the NUS Official Transcript. Summer URAPS runs for 9 to 12 weeks as a research attachment and carries no units and no transcript.

Participants work on a project under an NUS faculty supervisor, across departments that include Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology, Mathematics, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, and Statistics and Data Science. Places are reached through the home university, because NUS sends the application procedure to each partner’s study abroad coordinator. Exchange status waives tuition, while the mandatory student fees and all living costs stay with the participant.

Benefits & funding

A full-time research placement in an NUS Faculty of Science laboratory, supervised by a faculty member and using the faculty’s laboratory facilities.
Summer UROPS: 8 units with grades recorded on the NUS Official Transcript, issued the following February.
Summer URAPS: a 9 to 12 week attachment, with no units awarded and no transcript issued.
Tuition is waived under exchange status. Participants pay the NUS Miscellaneous Student Fees, which for AY2026/2027 are a Student Services Fee of S$66.44 per semester for exchange students and a Health Service Fee of S$165.50 per semester.
On-campus housing at University Town is open to participants whose stay begins on 18 May 2026, for a fixed period of 17 May to 25 July 2026 for Summer UROPS and 17 May to 18 July 2026 for Summer URAPS.
No stipend, salary or scholarship is attached. NUS estimates the following costs for the stay: Student’s Pass application S$30 to S$120, housing S$2,000 to S$3,500, meals S$1,000 to S$1,800, transport S$300 to S$450, and personal expenses S$250 to S$400.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduates currently enrolled at a university that the NUS Faculty of Science counts as a partner for this programme.
The partner list is not published on the programme page, so the home university’s study abroad office is the place to confirm whether the link exists.
No nationality, residency, age, gender or work experience requirement is stated.
Participants must be able to spend the whole research period on campus in Singapore and enter on a Student’s Pass.

Application process

Ask the home university’s study abroad office whether it is a partner for Summer UROPS or Summer URAPS at the NUS Faculty of Science.

Request the application procedure and the internal deadline from that office, because NUS supplies the procedure to the partner’s coordinator instead of publishing it.

Choose the track and window: Summer UROPS over 10 weeks from mid-May, or Summer URAPS over 9 to 12 weeks starting mid-May or late June.

Apply through the home university and wait for nomination and for matching with an NUS faculty supervisor.

After acceptance, apply for the Student’s Pass, book University Town housing if the stay starts in May, and settle the Miscellaneous Student Fees.

Complete the research period. Summer UROPS participants also give an oral presentation and submit a full research report.
