The Summer KAI-X Research Internship Program is an annual laboratory research placement run by the KAIST Advanced Institute for Science-X. Participants travel to KAIST in Daejeon, South Korea, for seven weeks of research in a natural-science field. The 2026 program ran from July 1 to August 14. It offered capped travel and dormitory support plus a living allowance.

Benefits & funding

  • Reimbursement of actual round-trip airfare expenses up to KRW 1,000,000.
  • Dormitory accommodation support up to KRW 500,000.
  • Living-expense support of KRW 600,000.
  • Seven weeks of laboratory research at KAIST.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be overseas third- or fourth-year undergraduate students or students enrolled in a master’s course.
  • Eligible fields include physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, brain and cognitive science, and medical science.
  • Students enrolled in a doctoral degree program are not eligible.
  • The official announcement states an overseas-enrollment requirement but does not publish a nationality or residence restriction.

Application process

    Prepare an approximately 1,200-character statement of purpose covering prior study, the academic or research plan, motivation, goals, and research interests.

    Obtain an official transcript and a recommendation letter issued within three months of the deadline; combine them with the statement into one PDF.

    Write all materials in English and attach the original plus a notarized English translation for any official document issued in another language.

    Log in with a Google account and submit the Google Form once before the deadline, selecting one major and up to two research fields.

    Await the selection result, which the 2026 announcement scheduled for mid-April.
