Summer@EPFL is an annual research fellowship run by EPFL’s School of Computer and Communication Sciences. Students join an EPFL research unit in Lausanne for an individually arranged project lasting two to three months, usually between May and September.

The work can involve programming, design, or other hands-on contributions to a laboratory’s wider research. The program is intended for strong Bachelor’s and Master’s students from institutions other than EPFL.

Benefits & funding

  • Living allowance of CHF 1,800 per month, prorated to the actual fellowship duration.
  • Reimbursement of travel costs for a second-class train ticket or low-cost or economy airfare.
  • A research placement lasting two to three months.
  • Participants are generally responsible for securing accommodation, although program staff may suggest or offer available options.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a BSc, BTech, MSc, MTech, or equivalent program in computer science, computer engineering, telecommunications, or electrical engineering.
  • Applicants must be in at least the second year of a Bachelor’s program and must have completed the first Bachelor’s year.
  • Applicants must remain enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program during the fellowship; PhD students and students who finish their Master’s before the summer are not eligible.
  • EPFL students are not eligible for this program.
  • Students from another discipline may apply only when they can demonstrate a strong record and interest in the program’s covered fields.
  • Selection is competitive and considers academic results.
