The Summer and Winter Research Program gives eligible UQ students supervised research experience with university academics and researchers. This record covers the Medical School’s six-week 2027 summer cohort, running from 11 January to 19 February 2027.
Participants work on a selected health or medical research project and build research and professional capabilities. Student Enrichment and Success coordinates the university-wide framework with participating UQ research units, while the Medical School manages its listed projects.
Benefits & funding
- Successful scholars receive an A$3,000 grant for the six-week summer program.
- Participants receive supervision from UQ researchers and access to research and professional skills development and research networks.
- Participation can count toward the UQ Employability Award, but it cannot be taken for course credit.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled at UQ in an undergraduate, honours, or postgraduate coursework program when applying and remain enrolled throughout the program.
- Doctor of Medicine students cannot apply because the program clashes with their semester timetable.
- Applicants need a field of study relevant to the chosen project, high academic achievement, and at least 30 unused unpaid work-experience days in the 2027 calendar year.
- Exchange students may apply if enrolled at UQ in the semester before and after the program; individual projects or research units may impose further requirements.
- There is no nationality or gender restriction, and no age or prior-work-experience threshold is published.

- 3Submit one application through the UQ StudentHub form by 11:59pm on 11 October 2026, selecting a preferred project and uploading all required documents.
- 4Await the research unit’s competitive decision; applicants not placed in their preferred project may be considered for another relevant project through the universal waitlist.
