The Fellowship Training Program is a one-year place with the Stockton Symphony, a professional orchestra in Stockton, California, for violinists building an orchestral career. The most recent call offered two section violin fellowships.
Fellows rehearse and perform with the orchestra through a concert season, with coaching from a principal player, mentoring from the music director, and help preparing for auditions.
Benefits & funding
- $125.11 per service (the program page’s “current” section rate), plus travel up to $54.40 per service; the orchestra’s audition page lists the section rate as $140.
- Up to 36 services in one season; fellows must commit to 80% of them.
- Four two-hour coaching sessions with a principal player and three mentoring sessions with the music director.
- Stand-partner critiques and mock auditions for orchestra members.
Eligibility
- Violinists studying for, or holding, an undergraduate degree in music performance.
- Interest in an orchestral career as a violinist.
- Available for evening rehearsals (7:45–10:15 pm), weekend concerts, and occasional daytime services set with the project manager.
- No nationality, residence, age or gender rule is stated.
- Applicants from backgrounds under-represented in the orchestra (racial, ethnic, socio-economic, geographic) are strongly encouraged; this is not a requirement.
