The SJTU Scholarship is Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s merit award for international students admitted to undergraduate, master’s or doctoral degree programs in Shanghai. Applicants request scholarship consideration as part of the relevant degree application.

Coverage is tiered and differs by program. Awards may include tuition support, a living stipend, an accommodation subsidy and insurance, with results issued alongside admission decisions.

Benefits & funding

  • Chinese-taught undergraduate first-class awards cover tuition, a CNY 2,500 monthly living allowance, accommodation support and insurance; second- and third-class awards provide narrower combinations of tuition, accommodation support and insurance.
  • English- and French-taught undergraduate first-class awards cover tuition, a CNY 2,500 monthly living allowance, a CNY 1,100 monthly accommodation subsidy and insurance; lower tiers provide 50% or 25% tuition support with specified non-tuition benefits.
  • Doctoral and master’s SJTU awards may include a monthly stipend, tuition waiver, group comprehensive insurance and an accommodation subsidy; the separate master’s tuition-waiver tier covers standard tuition and insurance.
  • Undergraduate support normally follows the four-year degree, while graduate scholarship duration follows the admitted program and is generally not extendable.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens who meet the admission requirements for an SJTU international degree program.
  • Undergraduate applicants need a high-school qualification; master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree; doctoral applicants generally need a master’s degree, although certain direct-entry doctoral routes accept bachelor’s graduates.
  • Scholarship recipients must be admitted by SJTU and cannot hold another scholarship at the same time.
  • Applicants must meet the academic, language, document and assessment requirements of their selected degree route.
  • Graduate applicants must be under 35 for master’s study or under 40 for doctoral study; the undergraduate routes do not share those graduate age caps.
