The SFA Postgraduate Scholarship supports full-term and mid-term Master’s or PhD study at local or overseas universities. It is offered by the Singapore Food Agency for relevant food-related science and technology disciplines, including agricultural and aquacultural sciences, life sciences, chemistry, food science and technology, microbiology, toxicology and veterinary science.
Applicants with a food-related science or technology Bachelor’s degree may also pursue data science, engineering or bioinformatics. After study, scholars serve SFA and may receive mentoring, rotations, secondments, and technical or management training connected to Singapore’s safe-food mission.
Benefits & funding
- Full-term awards cover tuition and compulsory fees, a maintenance allowance, a one-time pre-studies allowance, and return economy airfare for overseas study.
- Mid-term awards cover tuition and compulsory fees, including eligible backpayment, maintenance from the point of award, and one-way economy airfare from the country of study for overseas scholars.
- The service bond is three years after Master’s study and six years after PhD study.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be Singapore citizens, or Singapore permanent residents intending to take up Singapore citizenship.
- Applicants need strong first-degree academic results in a relevant discipline and must have applied or be applying for a local or overseas Master’s or PhD programme.
- Mid-term applicants must have completed at least one semester of academic results.
- Prior industry or work experience is welcome but is not required.

Application process
- 1Submit the scholarship application through SFA’s BrightSparks application route during the annual application window.
- 2Apply to a relevant Master’s or PhD programme; the university and scholarship applications may be made concurrently, but the award is confirmed only after securing an eligible university offer.
- 3If shortlisted, complete selection rounds that may include interviews, activity-based assessments and psychometric tests.
