Response_Able Futures is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master that trains designers to work inside health and care. LUCA School of Arts in Genk coordinates it, with the University of Aveiro and Sheffield Hallam University as consortium partners, and the European Union funds it.
The cohort moves together: semester one in Belgium, semester two in Portugal, semester three in the UK, and a fourth semester for the final project and thesis. The degree is 120 ECTS and is awarded as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (MFA) in Design and Health_Care.
Teaching is built around three themes: designing with care communities, designing for care communication, and understanding care systems. Graduates go into care organisations, NGOs, equity-driven startups, PhD study or policy advice.
Benefits & funding
- 13 Erasmus+ scholarships are attached to the 2027-2029 cohort.
- A scholarship waives tuition and pays €1,400 per month for up to 24 months, covering travel, visa, installation, rent and other living costs.
- Dedicated scholarships exist for applicants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.
- Self-funded places cost €5,000 per year, €10,000 for the four semesters; the consortium says the fee may differ for EU and non-EU students from September 2027.
- Tuition does not include travel, accommodation or living costs, which the programme estimates at €600–1,000 per month.
- Study runs across three countries and ends in a public exhibition of the final project, a jury presentation and a written report.
Eligibility
- A bachelor’s degree in a design-related field worth at least 180 ECTS, at EQF level 6 or above.
- The Selection Board may admit applicants from non-design degrees whose portfolio and design research skills show adequate preparation.
- English at IELTS 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 79+, Cambridge 170+, Duolingo 110+, ITACE at CEFR B2, or a diploma from a programme taught in English in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA.
- A valid identification document and proof of current residence.
- Open to all nationalities, with no residency requirement.
- Full-time and on-site: relocating with the cohort to Belgium, Portugal and the UK is mandatory.
