Official Page

RIPS Singapore is a nine-week undergraduate research program run by NUS’s Institute for Mathematical Sciences with IPAM at UCLA. International teams work daily at IMS on four real-world projects proposed by regional companies, supported by academic and industry mentors.

Participants apply mathematics, statistics, data science and computing, then deliver a written report and final presentation to the project sponsor. The 2026 program ran in Singapore from May 18 to July 17.

Benefits & funding

  • IPAM-route participants received a stipend, travel allowance, campus housing and meals; limited partial support for later travel to selected conferences was also listed.
  • IMS-route participants received a SGD 3,000 stipend and shared NUS campus accommodation; travel allowance was available only to students travelling to Singapore.
  • Participants received shared workspace at IMS and worked with academic and industry mentors.

Eligibility

  • The IPAM route accepted students enrolled in or just completing a bachelor’s degree; the main page states that U.S. citizens and permanent residents were eligible.
  • The IMS route was for third- or fourth-year undergraduates from Singapore and Asian universities, including students completing a bachelor’s degree during 2026.
  • Participants had to be at least 18 and commit full time to daily in-person project work and shared campus accommodation.
  • Strong mathematics preparation was encouraged; experience in programming, data analysis or numerical computation was useful but not required for every project.
