The Research Fellowships on Empowering Academic Freedom in Southeast Asia form an annual cohort of six early-career researchers and advocates. SEACAF supports original inquiry, expert mentorship, and peer exchange aimed at producing research and policy proposals relevant to academic freedom in the region.

The 2026 call offered three themes: neoliberal higher education, regional indicators for academic freedom, and participatory research to create training modules. Themes 1 and 2 run for 10 months, while Theme 3 runs for 12 months.

  • Themes 1 and 2 provide USD 12,000 per project for 10 months.
  • Theme 3 provides USD 15,000 per project for 12 months.
