The Prof Dr T and Dr A Sokolowska Scholarship is awarded by the University of Edinburgh’s Edinburgh Medical School. It enables successful Polish medical doctor and scientist applicants to undertake a period of further study or research at the Medical School and related institutions. The award supports new applicants admitted to a postgraduate taught Master’s or Master’s by Research programme, on either a distance-learning or an Edinburgh-based basis. A variable number of awards are made each year, depending on the funds available.
Benefits & funding
- For distance-learning (online) degree programmes: the award normally covers tuition fees, subject to satisfactory progress; no subsistence allowance is payable.
- For Edinburgh-based degrees: a subsistence allowance is payable for periods of 1–12 months (one year maximum), with limited tuition-fee assistance available for some applicants.
- The award does not cover research costs or travel to and from Poland.
- The number of awards varies year to year depending on available finances.
Eligibility
- Polish medical doctors / scientists.
- Early career — usually within 10 years of medical graduation (MB ChB or equivalent).
- Working in Polish Medical Academies / Universities and Research Institutes.
- Excellent mastery of English.
- New applicants who have applied for admission to a University of Edinburgh postgraduate taught Master’s or Master’s by Research programme.
Application process
- 1Apply for admission to an eligible postgraduate taught Master’s or Master’s by Research programme at the University of Edinburgh.
- 2Complete the online scholarship application through the University’s EUCLID / MyEd portal.
- 3Successful applicants are notified after the selection round (2026 entry: notifications in mid-July 2026).
